Astrology of October 2022
Do you want to know what my secret is? I don’t mind what happens.
― J. Krishnamurti
October of 2022 is here to take into the arms of the inevitable change. There are few major Astrological happenings this month that are having their influence on all that is unfolding throughout October and beyond. The ongoing square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus, that has been one of the main energies of 2021, is coming into the tight orb one last time in the first half of October. This aspect has been creating all sorts of roadblocks and obstacles for us to move forward towards our inherent values and desires for a more stable future. The pursuit of stability is in conflict with the desire for freedom. The answer is in your own definition of stability and freedom. Which established ideas and structures need a final push towards the revitalizing destabilization, will become more and more clear now.
Mars is moving at a snail pace throughout the month, as it prepares to go retrograde in the last days of October. The supporting trine that is formed between Mars and Saturn should give us an ability to keep a steady pace, and not make any rash decisions that would be really hard to undo. Saturn gives proper mental form to this Mars in the preparation for the retrograde cycle. On the other hand the square between Mars and Neptune can feel like energy is just slipping through our fingers. It is important right now not to mislead with words and to be grounded enough to not be misled. The perception can feel like the ultimate truth, but is it really? Mars gives an impulse to go, to do and Neptune dissolves that impulse, leaving us with a sense of dissatisfaction or restlessness. Be kind to yourself, use this impulse in the realm of imagination, the results will be more rewarding if you let go of expectation and give it plenty of time to crystalize.
One last major energy that is going to be felt throughout the month is the first of two Eclipses, that is falling on October 25th, the Solar Eclipse in Scorpio. This South Node Eclipse in conjunction with Venus asks us to reflect on the past and gain a deeper insight into the potential unfolding, and to be reminded that our value system is the starting point for our dreams and desires to take root. We’ll be shown where we have become consumed with false things and values that take away from us, how our deepest sense of self has been manipulated into attaching worth to having power over others, where our precious energy has been leaking through the cracks of the fear of loss. The Scorpio South Node Eclipse asks us to release the weight of the past we cannot carry any longer, to find a seed of the new world within, and plant that seed in the fertile soil that will move us towards the Taurus North Node. South Node in Scorpio is about clearing the gunk out of our depths, understanding that without knowing our shadow self we cannot truly experience the joy of this earthly plane. The vector that is leading us from the past into the future with the Taurus/Scorpio axis is about overcoming dependency in any form that is robbing us of our highest value.
We are gonna need plenty of patience and flexibility together with conviction and strategy to stay in our peace this month.
10/01 Venus in Libra opposite Jupiter Rx in Aries. October kicks off with a beautiful and expansive opposition between Venus in Libra and Jupiter in Aries. This is a time for us to find inspiration and growth through awareness about what kind of relationships, partnerships and collaborations we aspire to have in our lives. There is a fiery tone to this opposition, a sense of spirited impulsiveness, the glimpse of how beautiful it is to find oneself out of the comfort zone, in a place that feels like it beams with potential. With Jupiter retrograde that place is within, the potential of growth and truth, that is not divorced from grace and harmony, is in this opposition. One thing to keep in mind with this aspect, is that the promise is there, what we might need is a bit of time to assess where we currently are in regards to that promise, and do not extend ourselves beyond our immediate energy levels.
10/02 Mercury goes direct in Virgo. Mercury goes direct on October 2nd. The way is open. I don’t see Mercury retrograde as some major obstacle, but it is really so much more productive and aligned when we can allow ourselves to observe the immediacy of needing to make a decision, to pause during the retrograde is to play a long game. As Mercury goes direct, we can take the bits and pieces of information that has been arriving to us, the fragmented picture we gathered, and start putting it together in a way that it was intended.
It might have been hard to clearly identify what needs our focus during the last 3 weeks. With the Virgo/Libra dynamic ( Mercury started its retrograde motion in Libra and returned to Virgo), the questions might have been in regards to selectivity within our partnerships and relationships, the quality of well-being we experience in our relationship dynamics came to a much deeper analysis. With direct Mercury in its home sign of Virgo, clarity emerges about all these things, about our commitments and the service we choose to provide or maybe not.
10/08 Pluto goes direct in Capricorn. Pluto the planet of deep transformation, control and our shadow is going direct. This is like we have been internally brewing, shifting, going to the origins of a lot of our fears and control issues, and now we are asked to start applying these realizations in the external world. This direct motion is extra important, because this is the last Pluto retrograde before it dips into Aquarius for the first time in over 240 years. Pluto will come back into Capricorn a couple more times, but the closer we approach the first ingression into Aquarius the more intense these last degrees of Pluto in Capricorn will feel. Wherever the last 4 degrees of Capricorn fall in your chart, will feel like a major life cycle coming to an end. Themes of understanding the effects of authority and power in your life will be highlighted.
10/09 Full Moon at 16º of Aries. The Full Moon in Aries in opposition to Venus in Libra, conjunction to Chiron in Aries and square to Lilith in Cancer brings themes of safety and security of being just who we are to a sort of eruption. The acceptance of personal identity and desire to express oneself authentically can meet opposition from the needs of others, and all the hurt associated with a compromise that never felt natural, truthful or supportive will become very apparent. The square to Lilith speaks of the wound that comes from a need to be taken care of in the right way, without covert manipulations. This Full Moon we ask ourselves how fear of abandonment and non acceptance has altered our sense of self? How in the pursuit of safety we have become too accustomed to a victim mentality that can easily morphe into manipulation. Under the pressure of the ongoing square between Saturn and Uranus we have to make radical choices that support our liberation both internally and in our relationships in accordance with our highest values.
10/10 Mercury ingress into Libra. Mercury comes back into Libra once again after its retrograde journey. Themes that have come to the surface between August 25th and September 23rd are to be given final resolution and overall clarity. Mercury in Libra through its final opposition with Jupiter rx in Aries will allow us to have a greater view of how to process information, exchange ideas and negotiate fair solutions in our partnerships and collaborations.
The words and ideas that flow with ease and create an overall sense of balance are to be exchanged. One thing to remember, we do not use the agency of our mind to be wasted on smoothing something that is simply unfair, the goal is to use words to serve justice, harmony will follow.
10/12 Mars in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces. Mars is having its first square with Neptune on October 12th, but this is the dance that will be unfolding all the way through mid March of 2023. Mars in Gemini, in the shadow phase, moving extremely slowly is asked to inquire within how can we embody what we want first vs going after what we want without clarity? The elusive need for action in the pursuit of some ideal outcome is like walking through a storm without direction. On the positive note this square helps us to overcome some creative blocks through doing less and allowing more space in our mind for what actually matters to come through. In the Neptunian fog, with Mars preparing to go retrograde any action that is one sided or immutable will be dissipated or even wasted. No need to fight the Windmills, write, sing, speak or dream of them, the true purpose to assert one’s energy will emerge when the time is right. Action without compassion is a wasted effort is the lesson of this square.
10/22 Venus conjunct Sun at 29º of Libra. Libra season finishes with the last hooray in a form of Sun/Venus conjunction at the critical 29th degree. Venus crosses the heart of the Sun, that is so full and ready to begin a new chapter in our partnerships and how we show up in them. Any energies that meet at the last degree carry a sense of urgency in relation to the sign they are in. In Libra we might feel that this is the moment to tie up loose ends within our relationships and negotiations, there is a feeling of cup runneth over with the greater understanding about what we are willing to offer and how we can create dynamics that are mutually supportive and ultimately bring us a sense of peace.
10/23 Sun and Venus move into Scorpio. Scorpio season starts with both Sun and Venus, hand in hand, entering the land of transformation and rebirth. Scorpio season is a time for us to delve into the parts of our individual and collective psyche to reclaim the power that is not about control or dominance, but about the sovereignty over our own capacity to transmute, discard and change. For me Scorpio season is always when the revolution is prepared, it is the brewing season, the behind the scenes work. Also this year, it happens to be the host of an Eclipse season. Venus in Scorpio is here to perform one of the hardest tasks, it is to surrender to love even when it feels like a little death. In the season of transmuting pain into power, it is so important that we look for support across the sky into the realm of Taurus. Where we can be gentle in our slowness, when out of our control circumstances knock on the door, we consciously choose to ground in nature, in eating warm bread and in sleeping as much as it is necessary to feel nurtured.
10/23 Saturn goes direct in Aquarius. The same day as we enter Scorpio domain, Saturn turns direct. It is on. Saturn has been retrograde since the beginning of June, and we had an opportunity to redefine the internal structures and boundaries as it pertains to our place within our network circle, our community and the greater collective. What could have come up is that we have been expected to participate in what’s unfolding all around, but have little energy or not enough clarity. This time was for us to crystalize our actual capacity to process the change within the social dynamics and expectations. As Saturn turns direct we can apply ourselves in regards to the commitments and obligations, with a greater understanding when enough is enough, and it is time to pull back, and draw a line.
10/25 New Moon Solar Eclipse in Scorpio. The eclipse season is now open. This is a South Node eclipse and being in close conjunction to Venus, this Eclipse is going to touch upon some sensitive points in regards to our values, relationships and sense of inner stability. The past is coming through and stirring all sorts of emotions and memories that need to be dealt with, so we can have a clean slate and build connections that are not founded on trauma or need to control, but take us closer to our essence and allow true intimacy to emerge.
10/28 Jupiter goes back into Pisces. Jupiter is dipping back into Pisces until December 20th, and is going to travel through the last 2 degrees of Pisces. Try to remember what energies have been around you in the beginning of May 2022. Themes related to Jupiter in Pisces include our spiritual development, compassion, creative pursuits and knowledge that arrived in non logical or linear ways. Jupiter is as its second home in Pisces, feeling very benevolent, and a bit more passive in contrast to Jupiter in Aries. The understanding, even if not verbalized, about our long term spiritual intention will emanate during this time with enough surrender on our part.
10/30 Mars goes Retrograde. Right at the end of the month Mars is beginning its 2.5 month retrograde journey through Gemini. In the home of mutable air sign energy is directed to learning how to formulate our ideas better, how to channel our energy in a more focused and aligned way. Mars in Gemini is an epitome of curiosity, the mental juggler and the wordsmith. As it turns retrograde it brings all these qualities for us to reconsider how we apply the agency of our mind in a way that is supportive of the impact we are hoping to have. Happy October!
With Love, Mariana
